Ukraine Heritage Spotlight: Rethinking the museum

In the latest episode of our Ukraine Heritage Spotlight podcast series, we explore what it is like to run a museum during wartime. Despite challenging conditions and endless difficulties, Oleksandra Kovalchuk, deputy director of the Fine Arts Museum in Odesa as well as the co-founder of the Museum For Change NGO, actively supports Ukrainian cultural institutions in protecting their collections and continuing their operations.

Many architectural monuments and works of art representing Ukrainian cultural heritage have been destroyed. How can we care for those that are still under threat? What are the key needs of Ukrainian museums? What role do museums play in the context of the Ukrainian-Russian war?
