“Cultural Heritage Matters for Europe” is the theme of the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2025, taking place in Brussels from 12 to 15 October. This year’s edition holds particular significance as it precedes the publication of the European Commission’s first-ever “Cultural Compass for the Future of Europe”.

During the summit, participants not only discussed the political, social, economic, and environmental importance of cultural heritage for Europe’s development, but also shared best practices in its protection and promotion. This included showcasing the achievements of the 30 winners of the 2025 European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards. Among those honoured at the ceremony held in Flagey – a stunning Art Deco building in Brussels – were five projects from Central Europe:

The prestigious awards ceremony was hosted by Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Justice, Youth, Culture and Sport; Professor Dr Hermann Parzinger, Executive President of Europa Nostra; and Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra. The event was also attended by Professor Jacek Purchla, Vice-President of Europa Nostra and Chair of the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards Jury; Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, Member of the Europa Nostra Council and Director of the International Cultural Centre; and Rev. Dr Dariusz Raś, President of the Society of Frends of Kraków History and Heritage, which operates the Europa Nostra Hub Heritage Hub in Kraków.
