Heritage as a bridge for peace and reconciliation

HomepageHeritage as a bridge for peace and reconciliation

On November 16, 2023, Europa Nostra organised a webinar #Youth4Heritage: ‘Heritage as a bridge for peace and reconciliation. Exchanging experiences – pooling resources’.

This participatory online event endeavored to bring together heritage and peace-building experts and emerging and seasoned professionals. By doing so, organisers aimed to inspire and foster an exchange of ideas that positions heritage as a conduit for peace and reconciliation. Through this collective endeavour, Europa Nostra strive to tread a path that recognises the significance of Europe’s cultural heritage while actively working towards mending the past and present wounds.

The organisers brought together 40 speakers across 4 breakout rooms, each dedicated to a specific region of Europe. Discussions were focused on the Caucasus region, Ukraine & Moldova, Western Balkans, and South East Mediterranean. Each thematic discussion was moderated by an expert specialising in particular region with the assistance of the selected European Heritage and Youth Ambassador (EHYA) acting as a rapporteur.

During the closing session, European Heritage and Youth Ambassadors presented the outcomes achieved in each breakout room. The event ended with a summary discussion with the participation of Europa Nostra Secretary General, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, and representatives of Europa Nostra regional hubs from Krakow, Athens, and Nicosia. Kraków Heritage Hub was represented by Deputy Head, Dr. Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga.

The webinar was organised in the frame of the Europa Nostra network project European Cultural Heritage Agora co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
