Keep your ears open for heritage!

HomepageKeep your ears open for heritage!

We’re creating an online platform called the Heritage Sound Register to collect the sounds of Central and Eastern European heritage. The project covers natural and cultural landscapes, including industrial ones. Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Kraków is running the initiative, which is being curated by John Beauchamp.

The idea is to create a soundscape of the region that will connect the sounds of the past with contemporary listeners. Our collection of heritage sounds is available for anyone to use. We’d like to encourage researchers, museum professionals, educators and anyone involved in telling heritage stories through the power of sound to use this database!

There are some great recordings to listen to, including sounds from a train journey on the Mocănița in Romania, mining machinery from the Queen Louise Adit in Zabrze, and recordings of a loom and other historical gems from the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź.
