The Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum is situated on the banks of the Danube, near the point where the borders of Slovakia, Hungary, and Austria meet, and close to Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava. This complex is one of the most extraordinary places created specifically for modern and contemporary art in the 21st century in Central Europe! The museum was established thanks to the determination of art collector Vincent Polakovič and the involvement of Dutch investor Gerard Meulensteen. The building, shaped like a Roman galley with oars, was designed by Slovak architect Peter Žalman.

In the upcoming 25th episode of our “Holistic Heritage” podcast, Dr Katarzyna Jagodzińska visits the museum in 2025 – on the milestone of its quarter-century anniversary – to discover how it has become rooted in this extraordinary natural and cultural landscape. Her guide through this Danubian jewel is Michaela Šimonová. The site forms an integral part of a green ecosystem – not only an art space with an outdoor sculpture park but also a place for relaxation, where visitors can enjoy the beauty of the Danube.
