Sounds of heritage

Despite a rainy and cold Monday, 3rd November, we were warmly welcomed by the International Cultural Centre in Kraków, where the next meeting of the Kraków Heritage Forum took place. During the event, we continued the series of workshops initiated in October dedicated to the sounds of heritage and the art of storytelling. The sessions were led by John Beauchamp, a sound producer and communication specialist at Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Kraków.

Theory was intertwined with practice. The trainer shared his extensive experience, passionately explaining the significance of soundscapes, recording principles, and behind-the-scenes insights into audio production. The knowledge gained enabled participants — practitioners and experts involved in the everyday management, promotion, and research of cultural heritage — to test professional equipment and work through the phase of developing podcast scripts.

The third and final meeting will focus on sound editing. Each team will prepare a three-minute audio piece based on recordings made during the session. The event will conclude with a summary of the workshops and a discussion of the benefits of using sound in scientific and popularising activities within the field of cultural heritage.

We sincerely thank Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, Director of the International Cultural Centre in Kraków, for her hospitality and invaluable support.
