What we do?

Europa Nostra is a pan-European federation of organisations and institutions in the field of cultural and natural heritage. It was founded on 29 November 1963 in Paris, and since then it has celebrated, protected and advocated for heritage. Covering over forty countries, Europa Nostra is recognised as the largest and the most representative heritage network in Europe. It maintains close relations with the European Union, the Council of Europe, UNESCO and other international bodies.

Together, members of Europa Nostra provide a network for dialogue and debate, celebrate the best heritage achievements, campaign against threats to vulnerable heritage buildings, sites and landscapes, and lobby for sustainable policies and high quality standards with regard to heritage.

Mission

  • To give shape and voice to an ever-growing citizens’ movement to support cultural
    and natural heritage across Europe
  • To be forceful advocates of heritage – with its multiple benefits for our economy,
society, culture and the environment – towards policy-makers at all levels of governance.
  • To promote best practices in the heritage field across Europe.
  • To campaign to save Europe’s most endangered heritage sites and support actions led
    by Europa Nostra’s member organisations.
