Our news

Europa Nostra Heritage Hub for Central and Eastern Europe in Kraków is a regional centre of Europa Nostra, a pan-European federation of organisations involved in the protection, management, and promotion of cultural and natural heritage in 40 European countries.

As a platform, we strengthen the voice of NGOs from Central and Eastern Europe in shaping European heritage policy.
We facilitate cooperation between civic organisations and heritage institutions in the region.
We increase the visibility of activities supporting heritage in the region.

Kraków Heritage Forum is up and running

On January 31, 2024, we held the second meeting of Krakow heritage NGO’s. This space for dialogue initiated and led by the Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Krakow was named the Kraków Heritage Forum. The meeting attended by representatives from nearly thirty civil organisations focused on the intangible heritage of Krakow. .

International Forum on Historical Centres: „Heritage Connects People and Places” – 22 April, Timișoara

The Forum is organised by the Romanian Order of Architects, Europa Nostra and Asociația Prin Banat in cooperation with the Timișoara Municipality, the Timiș County Council. The sessions will be dedicated to a Masterclass on Diversity and Inclusion in the cultural heritage field and to contemporary issues facing built heritage in historic town centres. The Forum is part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture Timișoara 2023.

Charter for Mega-events in Heritage-rich Cities is a set of recommendations for cities planning to organize large events in historic cities. It was created as part of the international research project HOMEE – Heritage Opportunities/threats within Mega-Events in Europe 2018-2021 and it is the result of extensive desk research, Living Lab workshops and a number of case studies. Its provisions were verified during validation workshops by experts and practitioners.

Kraków Heritage Lab

A new initiative of the City of Krakow on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of inscribing historic centre of Krakow on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This year’s jubilee was an opportunity to inaugurate a Kraków Heritage Lab – a series of interdisciplinary conversations for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the broadly understood issues of cultural heritage, its care and protection, as well as a creative approach to the issue of sustainable development.

Międzynarodowe Forum Centrów Historycznych: „Dziedzictwo łączy ludzi i miejsca” – 22 kwietnia 2023 roku, Timișoara, Rumunia

Charter for Mega-events in Heritage-rich Cities to zbiór rekomendacji dla miast planujących organizację dużych wydarzeń w miastach historycznych. Powstał on w ramach międzynarodowego projektu badawczego HOMEE – Heritage Opportunities/threats within Mega-Events in Europe 2018-2021 i jest wynikiem szeroko zakrojonych badań źródeł wtórnych, warsztatów Living Lab oraz szeregu studiów przypadków. Jej zapisy zostały zweryfikowane podczas warsztatów walidacyjnych przez ekspertów i praktyków.

Recommendations to safeguard cultural heritage in Ukraine drafted by experts in Brussels

Dr Katarzyna Jagodzińska, head of the Europa Nostra Heritage Hub for Central and Eastern Europe in Kraków, represented the Society of Friends of Kraków History and Heritage (Towarzystwo Miłośników Historii i Zabytków Krakowa) at the meeting of the European Commission-led expert group on the safeguarding of cultural heritage in Ukraine taking place in Brussels on January 22-23, 2024.

Memento Park in Budapest on the list of the 7 Most Endangered Monuments and Heritage Sites in Europe for 2023

On April 13, 2023, Europa Nostra, the European Voice of Civil Society Committed to Cultural and Natural Heritage, and the European Investment Bank (EIB) Institute announced this year’s list of the 7 Most Endangered monuments and heritage sites in Europe. The 7 Most Endangered programme is Europa Nostra’s flagship programme. It mobilises public and private partners on a local, national and European level to find a viable future for threatened monuments and sites in Europe. It offers more visibility, generates additional attention and media coverage. 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of this innovative programme. The Memento Park in Budapest (HUNGARY) is among The 7 Most Endangered sites for 2023.
