Europa Nostra Heritage Hub for Central and Eastern Europe in Kraków is a regional centre of Europa Nostra, a pan-European federation of organisations involved in the protection, management, and promotion of cultural and natural heritage in 40 European countries.

As a platform, we strengthen the voice of NGOs from Central and Eastern Europe in shaping European heritage policy.
We facilitate cooperation between civic organisations and heritage institutions in the region.
We increase the visibility of activities supporting heritage in the region.

Kraków Heritage Hub in European Commission expert group on safeguarding Ukrainian heritage

Europa Nostra Heritage Hub for Central and Eastern Europe in Krakow was among the experts and organizations invited to participate in the work of the European Commission expert sub-group on safeguarding cultural heritage in Ukraine. Kraków Heritage Hub is represented by Professor Jacek Purchla, vice-president of Europa Nostra.

Conservation of the Wit Stwosz Altarpiece awarded the European Heritage | Europa Nostra Award 2023

The European Commission and Europa Nostra have announced today the winners of the European Heritage Awards | Europa Nostra Awards 2023. This year, 30 outstanding heritage achievements from 21 countries have been awarded Europe’s top honour in the field. Among this year’s winners was the Wit Stwosz Altarpiece in St. Mary’s Basilica in Krakow.

“Teaching and learning with living heritage in Ukraine” – UNESCO pilot project

UNESCO’s latest pilot project “Teaching and Learning with Living Heritage in Ukraine” seeks to enhance awareness of living heritage among Ukrainian school children by developing a resource kit for school teachers on how to integrate living heritage in school-based education in Ukraine. It demonstrates the role culture can play in recovery and reinforcement of cultural diversity in emergency contexts.

The Nicosia Convention: a criminal justice response to offences relating to cultural property – Riga, 2023

World Vyshyvanka Day – May 18, 2023

World Vyshyvanka Day is an international holiday dedicated to preserving the iconic Ukrainian embroidered shirt (known as “vyshyvanka”) as a symbol of the material and spiritual heritage of the Ukrainian people. Every year on the third Thursday in May, Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine from more than 100 countries wear vyshyvanka in celebration of this heritage. The World Vyshyvanka Day received European Heritage Award | Europa Nostra Award 2022 what expanded its impact in Europe.

The European Heritage Hub launched

On May 9-11, 2023 the first meeting of the partners of the large international project European Heritage Hub is taking place in Brussels. The project is implemented by a consortium of European organisations and institutions dealing with cultural policies, cultural heritage management, advocacy for culture and heritage, digitisation, education and promotion of heritage. Within this project Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Krakow will carry out a pilot mapping of the non-governmental sector of cultural heritage in Central and Eastern Europe.
