The Narrow Gauge Railway Museum in Sochaczew, located some 50km west of Warsaw, was founded in 1986. The museum’s collection is mainly based on the rolling stock and infrastructure of the Sochaczew Commuter Railway, which ceased operations in 1984.
Construction started on the narrow gauge railway in 1921, with operations commencing between Sochaczew and Tułowice on 1 October 1922, with the line extended to Piaski Królewskie and a branch running to Wyszogród opened in 1923.
Nowadays, the narrow gauge heritage railway is operated by Stacja Muzeum (Railway Museum in Warsaw) as a regional branch in Sochaczew. The narrow gauge facility is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, with over 150 units of rolling stock.
The recordings in the Heritage Sound Register are from an excursion on the narrow gauge railway between Sochaczew and Wilcze Tułowskie, taking place on 6 September 2025. The train was made up of diesel locomotive Lxd2 342, originally manufactured in Romania in 1982, with a rake of seven carriages from the 1950s and 1960s.
